So this is a totally random post but it may be helpful to some people. I recently purchased a new router and wanted to connect my Epson RX595 printer to it's USB connection and ran into several issues. The primary issue being an error caused by trying to get the router to add the printer.
Error code: 80004005
Model name: Linksys EA3500
Model number: EA3500
Serial number: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Firmware version: 1.0.30.126544
Operating system: Windows 7 SP 1
Software version: 1.4.12005.2
Here is the order of operation:
Make sure the printer drivers on your computer are up to date.
Reboot all components involved (PC, Router, Printer).
Go to "Control Panel" on your PC and choose "System And Security."
Under "Windows Firewall" Click "Allow a program through windows firewall."
Make sure Cisco Connect is checked off across all areas (Private / Public).
Run Cisco Connect (Included on CD or download).
Choose "Computers And Devices" and select "Printer."
Click "USB Printer."
After a while it should detect your printer and drivers on the PC.
Choose your printer and follow the prompts.
Now you can print across your network!
(Note that any additional computers will likely require the same printer drivers.)
This should work for all Linksys Cisco routers that feature a USB connection.
Stumbled across this old post because I just bought one of these routers and was surfing infos... and a question pops into my head ... to get a USB printer to work with this router you have to allow "Cisco Connect" to access through the Firewall? This effectively gives Cisco open access to the router's security. Does it not?
